Grants awarding the cost of
books for college courses were started soon after the Association
was incorporated to meet one of the goals in the Mission
Statement. Since the inception of the program, the Association
has issued grants totaling $9447.14. Beginning in
October 2005, the Torpedo Squadron 17 Educational Fund provided
matching grants to all recipients, thanks to the generosity of
Marvin Duncan, the sponsor of that Fund.
Thank you letters from the
Commanding Officers and grant recipients have been received, all
expressing the uniqueness of the program and the support it provides
the sailors, both personally and professionally.
